January 28, 2012 • Sign-In: 7:30 - 7:55 a.m.; Seminar: 8:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
Registration Deadline: January 26, 2012 (Register Now)

Description

This is a four-hour seminar on interpreting Genesis and living and proclaiming its message. It is intended for students and teachers of the Bible, including pastors, campus ministers, Sunday school teachers, small group leaders, and anyone else interested in biblical study.

Dr. Vern Steiner will present a session titled:

"Divine Inequality and a God of Justice and Grace: Revisiting the Story of Cain and Abel and Rethinking Its Message for Church and World"

Our guest presenter, Dr. Sebastian Carnazzo, will lead us through a session titled:

"What’s Love Got To Do with It?: The Problem of Patriarchal Polygamy in Genesis, and Its Effects in Salvation History"

Both of these sessions will have two key emphases:

  1. They will each read their respective biblical texts closely and develop implications for theological reflection based on careful interpretations.
  2. They will each offer suggestions for how careful interpretation can be undertaken by those without formal training.

In other words, the sessions will be both illuminating (by expounding the biblical message) and instructive (by providing how-to tips).

We look forward to reconnecting with those of you we haven't seen in a while. And as always, it will be a pleasure to see you regulars as well.

Following the seminar, the MIQRA staff will take Sebastian to lunch to enjoy further discussion about the morning's reflections. Please join us!

(The venue will be specified sometime that Saturday morning.)

Preregister by January 25, online (preferred) or by telephone (402-420-7677). Pay in advance (preferred) or at the door.
